Employment

Lack's Beach Service employs about 100 seasonal lifeguards.  Our season is March till October, but peak season is Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The role of a Lack’s lifeguard is considered a dual role; meaning guards not only maintain beach and water safety but are in charge of renting beach umbrellas and beach chairs.  Being a dual role lifeguard, you receive special training in order to maintain a high safety standard. As well as being independently in charge of renting beach equipment; lifeguards arrive on the beach at about 7:30a.m. in order to set up equipment for the day.  In the later afternoon guards are also in charge of putting away beach equipment. Lack's Beach Service has a handful of lifeguards whom do not participate in the dual role.  They are called Lifeguard Only.  Lifeguard Only means there is no rental equipment involved.  These guards just maintain beach and water safety.

As well as many professional skills, you will have the opportunity to meet people from all around the country and the world.   Many guards build strong friendships with each other which lead to lifelong friends national and worldwide.   Lack's Beach Service hires many guards from all over Europe,Canada and Australia.  We employ guards from different geographical areas, therefore we work with you to ensure  housing.

Generally, lifeguards are assigned to a certain location on the beach, and will work there throughout the season.  On duty hours, required by the City of Myrtle Beach are 8am- 5pm, seven days a week.  We have a few lifeguards whom work just as Relief Guards.  Relief Guards work when days off are needed.  These guards move locations as needed.  Lifeguards receive days off approximately every 10 days.

Lifeguards are paid every week. The average pay is $400- $550 a week.  Gross pay varies from each stand assessment.  A first year guard can expect to make about $450 a week.  Guards who work equipment stands can also expect to make daily tips.
