| | Typical day as a lifeguard
7-7:30am
| | Morning Check in. Arrive at our warehouse to receive 2-way radio, rental books, and an overview on the weather and ocean conditions.
|
7-9am
| | Set up. Setting up of rental equipment including beach chairs and umbrellas as well as lifeguard station with all appropriate attire. Not all lifeguard stands require 2 hours to set up equipment, but all stands must be ready for customers at 9 am.
|
9am-4pm
| | Maintain beach safety by enforcing Myrtle Beach city and county ordinances, rent equipment, handle lost and found children, and do any rescues and first aid if necessary. Of course with a 45 min. lunch break.
|
4-5pm
| | Break down. This is when lifeguards are allowed to put beach rental equipment away for the day. Lifeguards are on duty until 5pm regardless if equipment is already packed away.
|
5pm
| | Blow down. At exactly 5pm blow down is called over the 2-way radio and everyone is to leave the beach. Everyone then is to meet back at the warehouse for check in. Check In is a quick and organized daily procedure. It is when radios, rental receipts and money are turned in.

Most lifeguards become great friends and many live together, therefore the evenings are filled with social activities. Many restaurants, clubs and entrainment locations offer an excellent lifeguard discount.
